Jharkhand Politics / Champai Soren becomes the new CM of Jharkhand, MLAs sent to Hyderabad as soon as he takes oath

Jharkhand Politics: Champai Soren of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha was administered the oath of office as the Chief Minister of the state by Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Friday. Apart from the Chief Minister, two ministers have also taken oath. The names of the ministers who took oath are – Alamgir Alam, Satyanand Bhokta. According to the information, the MLAs have been sent to Hyderabad as soon as they took the oath so that any kind of split in the party can be prevented. Floor test is to be held on 5th February.

Before taking oath, Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan had appointed Champai Soren as the Chief Minister of the state. The swearing-in ceremony was held in the Darbal Hall of Raj Bhavan. After the resignation of Hemant Soren, Champai Soren immediately staked claim to form the government on Wednesday itself, but there was confusion throughout the day yesterday regarding the formation of the new government.

Hemant Soren resigned on Wednesday after working as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for almost 4 years. After his resignation, the political crisis started deepening in the state. Earlier there were reports that Soren would hand over the reins of power to his wife Kalpana Soren. But this did not happen.

Who is Alamgir Alam?

Alamgir Alam became the Minister of Handloom Department for the first time in the year 2000 in the Rabri Devi government in undivided Bihar. He has traveled the journey up to the Speaker of the Assembly. He became MLA by winning elections in the years 2000, 2005, 2014 and 2019. He remained the Assembly Speaker for 2 years in Madhu Koda's government. After the elections of 2014 and 2019, he was made the leader of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Legislative Party.

Whereas RJD's Satyanand Bhokta is the elected MLA from Chatra Assembly seat. He has become a minister in Jharkhand thrice. Before Champai Soren cabinet, he was a minister in the cabinets of Hemant Soren and Arjun Munda. Satyanand Bhokta started his political career with Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected on BJP ticket in the year 2000 and 2004. Joined RJD in 2019 and after winning as MLA, became Labor Minister in Hemant Soren's cabinet. Satyanand Bhokta is a resident of Kari village of Sadar block of Chatra district.

Floor test on 5th February

Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur has said that the new government will prove majority within 10 days. According to another information, floor test is to be held on February 5. Champai Soren has taken oath as the Chief Minister as part of the coalition government of Congress, JMM and Rashtriya Janata Dal. There was also speculation about the breakup of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLAs. On this, Champai Soren had said that we are united, our alliance is strong and no one can break us.”

How many MLAs from which party?

Tribal leader Champai Soren has become the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. In its journey of 23 years, Jharkhand has so far seen 11 Chief Ministers. The alliance has 47 MLAs in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. These include 29 members of JMM, 17 of Congress and 1 member of RJD. Whereas Bharatiya Janata Party has 26 MLAs and AJSU has three MLAs. Apart from this, two members are independent while NCP and CPI-ML also have 1 MLA each.
