CSK vs LSG: 4-time champion Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs in the sixth match of Indian Premier League-16. Chennai, after losing the toss and batting first on their home ground Chepauk after almost four years, scored 217 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. The team also did the feat of scoring 200+ for the 24th time in IPL. In reply, Lucknow batsmen could only manage 205 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

  • Century partnership of Chennai openers CSK openers gave a strong start to the team by making a century partnership. The pair of Rituraj Gaikwad and Devon Conway shared a 110-run partnership on 56 balls. This was the third century partnership of these two in 9 innings.
  • Giving 10th over to Ravi Bishnoi Lucknow captain KL Rahul delayed bowling to Ravi Bishnoi. He got a chance to bowl the 10th over. Ravi took 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs bowling. He could have been bowled after the powerplay. Mark Wood also got three successes, but Wood spent 49 runs.
  • Moin Ali took 4 wickets Moin Ali bowled accurately. He first broke the opening partnership by dismissing Lucknow opener Kyle Mayer (53 runs). Then KL Rahul (20 runs) was also made to walk. CSK's Rituraj Gaikwad scored his second consecutive fifty in this season of IPL. He got out after scoring 57 runs in 31 balls. In this innings he hit 4 sixes and 3 fours. He also shared a 110-run partnership with Dwayne Conway. This is the third century partnership between the two in 9 innings. Conway became the victim of Mark Wood in the next over on a personal score of 47 runs.

Mayor first player to score fifty in first two matches

Kyle Meyers got out after scoring his second consecutive century. He has become the first player in IPL history to score fifty in the first two matches.

Chennai scored 200+ for the 24th time

Lucknow won the toss and elected to bowl at the Chepauk Stadium and Chennai, batting first, scored 217 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. The team has scored 200+ for the maximum number of 24 times. In the last over, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit two consecutive sixes on the ball of Mark Wood, who was throwing the last over.

Rituraj Gaikwad played an inning of 57 runs on 31 balls. While Dwayne Conway contributed 47 runs. Shivam Dubey and Ambati Rayudu scored 27-27 runs. Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi took 3-3 wickets.

Dhoni completes 5000 IPL runs

Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 12 runs in Chepauk with the help of 2 sixes in 3 balls. Along with this, he also got 5000 runs in IPL. He became the 5th Indian and 7th player overall to do so. Dhoni took 237 matches for this. Dhoni hit both the sixes in his innings in the 20th over itself. He is at number one among the players who hit the most sixes in the 20th over of IPL. He has a total of 55 sixes in his name. After him, Kieron Pollard has 33 sixes, Ravindra Jadeja has 26 and Hardik Pandya has 25 sixes. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is at number five in this list with 23 sixes.
