Rajasthan Weather: Rain Alert in 25 Districts as Western Disturbance Lowers Temperature

A strong Western Disturbance has triggered widespread rain and hailstorms across 25 districts in Rajasthan. The IMD has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for various regions. With temperatures dropping by up to 11 degrees Celsius, the sudden weather shift has caused significant concern among farmers regarding potential crop damage.

A significant shift in weather patterns has been observed across Rajasthan due to the influence of an active Western Disturbance. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for 25 districts, predicting continued rainfall and hailstorms. This atmospheric change has led to a sharp decline in temperatures by up to 11 degrees Celsius in several regions, bringing a renewed chill to the state during the month of March. According to meteorological officials, the disturbance has disrupted the rising summer trend, causing widespread instability in the local climate.

Rainfall Statistics and Major Affected Areas

According to the data released by the weather department, various parts of Rajasthan have recorded moderate to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Barmer district recorded the highest rainfall at 16mm, while Alwar saw more than 13mm of precipitation. In the state capital, Jaipur, intermittent rain has been ongoing since 3 AM. The persistent cloud cover in Jaipur and surrounding areas has provided residents relief from the scorching sun that had begun to dominate the region over the last week.

Categorization of Weather Alerts: Orange and Yellow Zones

The Meteorological Center in Jaipur has categorized the affected districts based on the severity of the expected weather. An 'Orange Alert' has been issued for 9 districts, including Nagaur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Sikar, Tonk, Jhunjhunu, Alwar, Dausa, and adjacent areas. These regions are expected to experience high-velocity winds and heavy showers. Also, a 'Yellow Alert' is in place for 16 other districts, including Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Dholpur, Bhilwara, Baran, Kota, Jodhpur, Pali, Churu, Bikaner, Udaipur, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Dungarpur, and Banswara.

Hailstorms and Significant Temperature Fluctuations

In addition to the rainfall, several parts of the state have reported hailstorms. Areas such as Sikar and Kotputli witnessed significant hail, which impacted daily activities and local transport. Officials noted that the combination of thunderstorms, rain, and hail has caused the mercury to plummet by as much as 11 degrees Celsius in some cities. This sudden drop has altered the thermal profile of the state, transitioning the environment from early summer heat back to a cooler, wintry feel.

Agricultural Impact and Concerns for Standing Crops

While the urban population views the rain as a respite from the heat, the agricultural community is facing heightened anxiety. Currently, Rabi crops are either in the harvesting stage or standing ready in the fields. The occurrence of hailstorms and strong winds poses a severe threat to crops such as wheat, mustard, and gram. According to agricultural experts, unseasonal rain at this juncture can lead to waterlogging in fields and physical damage to the grains, potentially affecting both the quality and the total yield for the season.
