Jharakhand: The Congress party has secured a decisive lead over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the by-election to the Mandar assembly seat of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey is leading by 16,543 votes in the 17th round over BJP's Gangotri Kujur. Kujur has congratulated Shilpi Neha by accepting defeat as soon as the count of 4 rounds is left.

In the by-election held on June 23 in Mandar region, a triangular contest eased the way for the Congress. The biggest reason for BJP's defeat is being told to Dev Kumar Dhan, who rebelled against the party and staked claim as an independent candidate. AIMIM-backed Paddy has been ranked third. If their votes are added to the votes polled by the BJP candidate, the total is more than the votes polled by the Congress candidate. It is worth mentioning that Asaduddin Owaisi himself had also come to campaign in support of paddy. It was speculated earlier that in whose favor the result of this seat will go, it will depend on how much the magic of AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi works here.

His assembly membership was terminated after the brother Tirkey was sentenced to three years in prison in the disproportionate assets case. Congress nominated his daughter, Shilpi Neha Tirkey. At the same time, BJP took the displeasure of Dev Kumar Paddy and bet on Gangotri Kujur. Party leaders also tried to persuade Paddy, but he remained adamant on contesting the elections. After this he was expelled from the party. He contested as an independent candidate and came third.
