Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) troubles in IPL 2026 continue to mount. While the team was already grappling with injuries, the injury to young batsman Ayush Mhatre has further increased the team's concerns. Meanwhile, the big question for fans remains when Mahendra Singh Dhoni will finally make his return. The 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who looked in great touch during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), suffered a hamstring injury, which could rule him out of the next few matches. According to reports, a scan will be conducted on April 20 to determine the severity of his injury.
Update on Ayush Mhatre's Injury and Scan
Batting at number 3 in the match against SRH, Mhatre had made a good start, but while attempting a quick second run, he was seen clutching his left hamstring. He required medical attention on the field twice and was eventually assisted off the ground by the support staff after getting out. The team management is awaiting the results of the scan scheduled for April 20 before making a decision on his further participation.
Search for Khaleel Ahmed's Replacement
CSK suffered another setback as fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out of the entire tournament due to a quadriceps injury. The team is now actively searching for his replacement. Former Mumbai Indians pacer Akash Madhwal has undergone a trial in Hyderabad, while Rajvardhan Hangargekar is also set to participate in trials in Mumbai, while the team is expected to finalize a replacement soon to bolster their bowling attack.
Coach Hussey on MS Dhoni's Return Status
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the team has reached Mumbai, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni is present with the squad, while however, the situation regarding his return is still not clear. Dhoni has not played a single match in IPL 2026 so far as he's still recovering from an injury. Speaking on Dhoni's return, coach Hussey stated that, to be honest, he isn't certain. He mentioned that Dhoni is making good progress in his recovery and the coaching staff is happy with his batting. He further explained that the focus is now on his running, as batting in the latter part of the innings requires the ability to take quick singles and doubles. Dhoni needs to build confidence in his running and improve his speed. Hussey added that he doesn't know when Dhoni will play but hopes it happens soon, as all fans wish.
