Electric vehicles : There is good news for electric vehicle buyers. In fact, the Delhi government has made an action plan to provide one public charging station for every 15 electric vehicles (EVs) by the year 2024. With this plan, the hassle of charging for those buying an electric vehicle will be reduced. Under the new policy documents for Electric Vehicles (EVs), the government also intends to provide incentives to those providing battery replacement services under this policy.

Power distribution companies are also involved in this policy of the Delhi government, which will study the impact of EV charging on the grid. The Delhi government on the completion of two years of its EV policy released the 'Charging Action Plan' for electric vehicles. It was first introduced in 2020.

The policy has been named 'Action Plan for Basic Infrastructure of Charging/(Battery) Exchange for 2022-25'. Under the policy, incentives would be provided to operators providing battery swap facilities in the state.

The plan states that if the battery is not sold with the vehicle, up to 50 per cent of the purchase incentive will be given to power operators to ensure that customers do not have to pay a huge price. "Car manufacturers will be encouraged to register their interchangeable models separately," the document said.

According to it, “The cost of batteries typically accounts for 40 to 50 per cent of the total EV cost and it also saves the consumer using the electric vehicle the risk of battery failure. Hence, swapping batteries as a solution can help boost India's e-vehicle sector.

The government's plan also states that the draft battery swap policy published by NITI Aayog on April 20, 2022 and any subsequent amendments along with future measures will also be taken into account.

The document states that the Delhi government aims to provide one public charging center for every 15 EVs by 2024. This network of charging centers will be spread across Delhi and a charging center will be available within three km from anywhere in Delhi.
