K. Viswanath: Famous director, screenwriter and actor of Indian films, Kasinthuni Viswanath has passed away. The veteran artist was also known as 'K Vishwanath'. The actor died at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad. He was a famous artist of Telugu film industry. After the death of Kasinthuni Vishwanath, there is a pall of gloom in the South Industry. All are bidding him farewell with moist eyes.

Kasinthuni Vishwanath has received 5 National Film Awards, 7 Rajyanandi Awards, 10 South Filmfare Awards and one Filmfare Award in Hindi. He was awarded the "Prize of the People" at the "France Cabescon Film Festival" in 1981. In 1992, he also received the Andhra Pradesh Rajyaraghupati Venkaiah Award and a civilian award. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 for his contribution in the field of arts and was also honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema in 2017.

Telangana Chief Minister condoles the death

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao also condoled Vishwanath's death. A press release issued by the Chief Minister's Office quoted Rao as saying, "Vishwanath was a distinguished film director, who presented simple stories as a 'classic film' on the big screen with his amazing talent." Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said, "Vishwanath is a mirror of Telugu culture and Indian arts. The films made under his direction brought unparalleled recognition to the Telugu film industry. He will always remain in the hearts of Telugu speaking people as an artiste."

gained immense popularity in Tamil and Hindi films

Apart from Telugu cinema, he also gained a lot of popularity in Tamil and Hindi films. He was the 48th person to be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This award is considered the highest honor of Indian cinema. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2016.

Received many awards in an illustrious career

In his illustrious career, he also received the Padma Shri in 1992, the National Award five times, 20 Nandi Awards (an award given by the Andhra Pradesh government) and 10 Filmfare Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award. Vishwanath made about 50 films in his career. Apart from being a well-known film producer in the Telugu film industry, he also worked for Tamil and Hindi cinema.

Vishwanath began his film career as an audiographer and in sixty years, he has directed 53 feature films in a variety of genres, including films based on the performing arts, visual arts and aesthetics. He received international recognition for his works, and is known for blending parallel cinema with mainstream commercial cinema. Vishwanath's filmography is known for addressing issues of caste, colour, disability, gender discrimination, misogyny.

In 1951, he debuted as an assistant director in the Telugu-Tamil film Pathal Bhairavi. In 1965, Vishwanath debuted as a director with the Telugu film Atma Govaram, which won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film of the year. His most famous film, Shankarabharanam (1980), which highlighted the neglect of traditional Indian music under the growing influence of Western music, broke several commercial records by running for more than a year in theatres.
