Former Indian veteran spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has passed away at the age of 77. Bishan Singh Bedi, who was part of the famous spin bowling quartet in the 1970s, is no more. He had won many matches for Team India on his own. He was known for his mysterious spin bowling.

This is how my career has been

Bishan Singh Bedi was born on 25 September 1946 in Amritsar. Bedi was counted among the best spin bowlers of India. Even West Indies batsmen were hesitant in playing him. He played Test cricket for India from 1966 to 1979 and was also a part of the famous Indian spin quartet (Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrashekhar, Raghavan). He took 266 wickets in 67 Test matches, in which he took five-wicket hauls 14 times. Apart from this, he took 7 wickets in 10 ODI matches. He finished his first class cricket career with 1560 wickets.

Expressing his condolences, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah wrote that he was saddened to hear the news of the demise of Shri Bishan Singh Bedi. Indian cricket lost an icon today. Bedi sir defined an era of cricket and he left an indelible mark on the game as a spin bowler. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Captained in so many test matches

Apart from India, Bishan Singh Bedi proved his bowling skills on foreign soil also. He captained the Indian team in 22 test matches, in which India won 6 and lost 11. And 5 matches ended in a draw. The 22 test matches in which he captained. 106 wickets were taken in that. Bedi was briefly the manager of the Indian cricket team during the tour of New Zealand and England in 1990. He was also the national selector and mentor to many talented spinners like Maninder Singh and Murali Karthik.

Bishan Singh Bedi has passed away after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Anju, son Angad and daughter Neha. His son Angad has been seen in films like 'Tiger Zinda Hai' and 'Pink'. His daughter-in-law Neha Dhupia is a famous actress.
