Indian Cricket Board: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is establishing its supremacy not only on the cricket field but also in the financial sector. In the last five years, the board has earned profits of thousands of crores of rupees, which has made it the richest cricket board in the world. While Team India is flying the flag of success on the field, BCCI has left all other cricket boards far behind in terms of earnings.

Financial achievements of BCCI

According to reports, the bank balance of BCCI in the year 2019 was Rs 6,059 crore, which has increased to Rs 20,686 crore by 2024. During this period, the board registered a growth of Rs 14,627 crore. In the last financial year (2023-24) alone, BCCI earned Rs 4,193 crore, which is a record for any other cricket board. Additionally, the general fund of the board also increased from Rs 3,906 crore to Rs 7,988 crore.

This financial success of BCCI can be revealed in more detail in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on September 28, 2024. The board has set aside Rs 3,150 crore for tax for 2023-24, which reflects its strong financial planning.

Reasons for reduction in earnings

Although BCCI's earnings have increased tremendously, its income has also seen a decrease in some areas. For example, earnings from media rights of international matches fell from Rs 2,524.80 crore last year to Rs 813.14 crore. The main reason for this was the organization of fewer international matches.

Also, BCCI earned Rs 642.78 crore from the ODI World Cup held in India in 2023 and international tours of Team India, which this time came down to Rs 361.22 crore. Interest received on bank deposits also decreased from Rs 986.45 crore to Rs 533.05 crore. These figures show that some external factors affected the earnings of BCCI, but despite this, the financial position of the board remains extremely strong.

Rising expenditure and investment

Along with the earnings of BCCI, its expenditure has also increased. Last year, the board's expenditure was Rs 1,167.99 crore, which increased to Rs 1,623.08 crore in 2023-24. Apart from this, the board has allocated Rs 1,200 crore for infrastructure development, Rs 350 crore for Platinum Jubilee Benevolent Fund and Rs 500 crore for Cricket Development Fund.

BCCI has also made several provisions to provide financial assistance to the State Cricket Associations, which shows its long-term vision and commitment to the development of cricket.

Global position of BCCI

This financial success of BCCI makes it a powerful institution not only in India but also globally. The board has used its income not only in the development of cricket but also in infrastructure and welfare of players. This achievement is a proof that BCCI has established a balance between sports and business, which sets it apart from other cricket boards.
