Rohit Sharma will have a chance to further extend his fine captaincy track record when he leads India in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. Regular captain Virat Kohli has been given a much-needed rest following a hectic schedule. The three-match series will get underway on November 3 in Delhi.

Rohit is in fine form at the moment, having scored three centuries including a double ton in the recently-concluded Test series against South Africa. The right-handed batsman will be looking to make the most of his recent form. And the star batsman has made it clear that he means business as the captain of the side.

Speaking on the eve of the first T20I, Rohit stated that he has done his homework as captain as he insisted that the team needs to do well in the shortest format of the game. Unlike in Tests and ODIs, India’s performance has been inconsistent in T20Is and their position in the ICC rankings pretty much proves that. Rohit is well aware of that as he insisted that India need to do well in T2oIs.

“The first priority for us is to win games. And then focus on the rest. We have not had a great run in T20s. We probably are ranked number 5 or 6, if I am not wrong. I think five,” said Rohit as he looked for confirmation about India’s exact rank.

This is when someone from the journalists said that India are ranked number two in T20Is before Rohit clarified that he has done his homework, saying: “No, no. I am pretty sure. I do my homework pretty well. I think we are five, yeah. So that is something that we are really focused on and we want to get that number a little higher. We want to be at the top in all three formats.”

‘Not taking Bangladesh lightly’ – Rohit Sharma

India will definitely be the favourites against Bangladesh who are without their senior players Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. However, Rohit Sharma has warned his team against complacency, saying that Bangladesh can beat any team. The India skipper said that the visitors are experienced enough to get the better of any team on their day.

“Bangladesh is a very very good team,” Rohit said. “Over the years, we have seen how they have performed not just at home but also away whenever they have gone out. Especially against us, they have always put us under pressure. There is no way we look at this team differently.

“I understand there are two key players missing [in their side] but they still have quality players that can upset any team. I wouldn’t say ‘upset’. I would say ‘beat’. That’s a good word to use. They are very mature cricketers now,” he added.
