Mumbai: Karan Johar’s Takht has been in news ever since its grand announcement. This period drama boasts of a stellar ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. With such a cast in place, fans and movie buffs have been eagerly awaiting its release. But seems like the wait will be much longer.

According to a recent report, Karan Johar has put the multi starrer on hold and will in fact go ahead with another love story instead. The new film will star Ranveer and Alia Bhatt in lead roles.

A source close to the development of Takht claimed that the narrative needs to be done together and it cannot happen now due to the pandemic. Hence, the film has been put on hold. A source told Mumbai Mirror, “Takht will have to be mounted on a certain scale and needs several actors in the same frame all through the narrative, which won’t be possible given the present social distancing guidelines. So, the project has been put on hold for now. The team will decide on the future course of action once the on-ground scenario gets back to normal.”

The source also revealed that the film has not been shelved and will happen in future with the same cast.

Talking about the new film, the source revealed, “Karan has been working on the script all through the lockdown and recently narrated it to both Ranveer and Alia. They loved it and have given their verbal nod to the film. It’s a love story with a fun vibe. Karan will step away from his intense zone and go back to something along the lines of his debut film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”

The source added that the plan for the Ranveer-Alia starrer is to begin filming next year, with a recce towards the year-end.
