Now home delivery of liquor has started in Delhi as well. Delhi government has allowed home delivery of liquor through mobile app or online web portal. Earlier, the Chhattisgarh government had started home delivery of liquor. Governments argue that this decision will not crowd the liquor shops in the Corona era.

As per the Delhi Excise (Amendment) Rules 2021, L-13 license holders will be allowed to deliver liquor at the doorstep of the people. "The licensee shall deliver the liquor to households only on receipt of the order through the mobile app or online web portal and no delivery shall be made to any hostel, office and institution," the notification said.

Earlier home delivery was available on e-mail or fax

Although home delivery of liquor was allowed even before this, licensees could deliver liquor only after an order was received through e-mail or fax. Now home delivery of liquor will be available on ordering from mobile app or online portal. This does not mean that all liquor shops will be authorized to make home delivery immediately.

States to consider home delivery of liquor: SC

It was only last year that the Supreme Court had remarked that states should consider home delivery of liquor after several pictures of people ignoring Corona rules due to crowding outside liquor shops. After this, liquor shops were closed again in Delhi as soon as the second wave of Corona arrived.

Liquor shops closed, home delivery started

In view of the decreasing cases of Corona, the process of unlocking Delhi has started gradually again, but no decision has been taken on opening liquor shops yet. Meanwhile, to meet the revenue loss due to the closure of liquor shops, the government has allowed home delivery.
