Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all out Sunrisers Hyderabad for 159 runs in 19.3 overs due to the excellent performance of the bowlers led by fast bowler Mitchell Starc. KKR has to score 160 runs to reach the final. Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins had decided to bat first after winning the toss, but Starc gave early blows and his innings faltered. The Hyderabad team could not recover from these setbacks, but with the half-century of Rahul Tripathi and finally the fast innings of Cummins, the team was successful in crossing the 150-run mark.

Mitchell Starc took three wickets for KKR. The most expensive seller in the history of the tournament, Starc's performance in the current season was not anything special, but in an important match like Qualifier-1, he showed his potential. Starc gave a big blow to Hyderabad by dismissing Travis Head in the very first over without opening the account. After this he also sent Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed to the pavilion. Apart from Starc, spinner Varun Chakraborty took two wickets for KKR. Interestingly, every bowler of KKR achieved success in this match and was successful in stopping Hyderabad from scoring big.

Amidst the falling wickets, Rahul Tripathi along with Heinrich Klaasen took charge of the innings and completed his half-century in just 29 balls. However, Rahul was run out after scoring 55 runs in 35 balls with the help of seven fours and one six. Apart from him, Klaasen contributed 32 runs on 21 balls and Cummins contributed 30 runs on 24 balls.
