IPL 2021 Final | Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 67 runs in the final of IPL 2021 to capture the trophy for the fourth time. Playing first after losing the toss, Chennai scored 192/3. Faf du Plessis scored (86) runs for the team. In reply to 193 runs, KKR could only manage 163/9 and beat the match by 27 runs.

Lord Shardul made CSK return

Chasing the target, KKR got off to a great start. Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill added 91 runs for the first wicket. The work of breaking this partnership was done by Shardul Thakur by dismissing Iyer (50). In the same over, he took the wicket of Nitish Rana (0). Kolkata had not yet recovered from these shocks that in the very next over, Hazlewood sent Sunil Narine (2) to the pavilion.

  • This season Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill added 50+ runs in the first wicket four times.
  • This was the 11th half-century of Shubman Gill (51) in the IPL and the third half-century this season.
  • Nitish Rana got out for zero for the sixth time in the IPL.
  • CSK's poor fielding
Till the powerplay, CSK dropped two catches from Venkatesh Iyer and a simple catch from Shubman Gill. The special thing was that Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave both the lives to Iyer on the score of 0 and 25. At the same time, when Gill was playing on 8, his catch was dropped by Shardul Thakur. In the 10th over, Gill was caught by Ambati Rayudu off Ravindra Jadeja's ball, but due to the dead ball, Shubman Gill got a big life at the score of 27. Actually, the ball went into Rayudu's hand after getting attached to the wire of the spider camera.

Dhoni did not bat

It is believed that perhaps this could be Dhoni's last IPL. If this was indeed Dhoni's last IPL, then his fans could not see him bat for the last time in the final.

CSK played like a champion

Playing first after losing the toss, CSK got off to a good start. For the first wicket, Rituraj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis added 61 runs in 8 overs. This partnership was broken by Sunil Narine by dismissing Rituraj (32). Narine then took the wicket of Robin Uthappa (31). Faf du Plessis scored (86) off 59 balls. The team scored 192/3 in 20 overs.
