Elon Musk News / Musk left the US government, his friendship with Trump did not work out

Elon Musk has resigned from his top advisory role to President Donald Trump. Musk, who led the DOGE department, thanked the efforts to reduce spending. He criticized Trump's 'big, beautiful' bill, which he considers to be a huge increase in the federal deficit and unnecessary spending.

Elon Musk News: Famous industrialist and technocrat Elon Musk, who is considered very close to Donald Trump, has distanced himself from the Trump administration. After leading a campaign to cut and reform the federal government bureaucracy, Musk has announced his resignation from his government role as Trump's top adviser.

Elon Musk posted on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying,

"As my scheduled time as a special government employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The DOGE mission will grow stronger over time as it becomes a way of running the government."

This statement comes at a time when Musk has also publicly criticized Trump's much-discussed 'Big Beautiful' bill. The bill plans to provide multi-trillion dollar tax breaks and a massive increase in defense spending.

What is the DOGE mission?

The DOGE mission (Department of Government Efficiency) launched under Musk's leadership was a special effort aimed at cutting federal spending, bringing transparency to the bureaucracy, and ensuring more efficient use of government resources. Musk believes that such a structure can make the US system of governance smarter and more effective.

Role of Special Government Employee

The Trump administration appointed Musk as a Special Government Employee. In this role, Musk was allowed to advise the federal government for a maximum of 130 days each year. This term ended by the end of May after Trump was sworn in on January 20.

A senior White House official told news portal Semafor that Musk's 'offboarding' process has formally begun from Wednesday night.

Resignation after criticism of the bill

Just before his resignation, Musk sharply criticized Trump's bill called 'Big Beautiful'. He said that this bill is highly expensive and includes provisions such as tax cuts as well as strictness on immigration. Musk called it a “huge spending bill” that will further increase the federal deficit and undermine his DOGE mission.

Speaking to CBS, Musk said,

“I am disappointed with this bill. It is contrary to the basic spirit of our government efficiency program.”

Is the Trump-Musk alliance over now?

Although Musk thanked Trump and talked about taking his DOGE mission forward, his statements indicate that the ideological conflict between the two is increasing. Especially the difference in the views of both has emerged regarding government spending, tax policy and administrative efficiency.
