The election battle has been set in twenty districts and the political parties are face to face. The first phase of elections is on 10th and the second phase elections are on 14th February. A large number of Muslim candidates have been fielded in both the phases. What is important is that in many seats the Muslim voter numbers are substantial and they have the ability to change the outcome of the election. This is the reason that barring the BJP, other parties have bet a lot on Muslims.

There is a strong hold of Muslim votes in the 113 seats in western UP where elections are being held in both the initial phases. Polling will be held in 58 seats in 11 districts in the first phase and 55 seats in nine districts in the second phase. In these seats, SP-RLD alliance, BSP, Congress and Owaisi's party have fiercely given tickets to Muslims. These parties have given tickets to 127 Muslim candidates. Of these, 50 in the first phase seats and 77 Muslim candidates in the second phase seats.

Maths of both stages
