Patna: Shooter Shreyasi Singh, who is the daughter of former Union minister late Digvijaya Singh, will on Sunday join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the due Assembly elections in Bihar. Her mother Putul Singh has also been an MP.

The 29-year-old shooter, who competes in the double trap event, is an Arjuna awardee. She has won a gold medal in shooting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia – Women's double trap and a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The international shooter is expected to take oath in the presence of general secretary Arun Singh and Bihar BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal. Prior to this, it was being speculated that she might join the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). It was being said that Tejashwi Yadav was in touch with her for this.

Shreyasi is likely to be fielded from Amarpur or Jamui Assembly seat in Banka. Her mother Putul won the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Banka in the 2010 Lok Sabha by-election after the death of her husband and former Banka MP Digvijay Singh. Shreyasi took charge of public relations for her mother.

The forthcoming Assembly elections in Bihar for 243 seats will be contested in three phases - October 28, November 3 and 7. The results will be announced on November 10.

Speculations are rife that the BJP has agreed to field candidates from 121 Assembly constituencies while alliance partner JD(U) will contest the elections from 122 out of the total 243 seats in the state Assembly. Meanwhile, the uncertainty over the LJP's seat share continues as the Paswans are targeting a larger number of seats for the upcoming elections.
