IPL 2022 / New IPL teams Sanjiv Goenka owned RPSG group claims Lucknow franchise

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced two new teams for the Indian Premier League (IPL). RPSG Group bagged the Lucknow franchise by bidding over Rs 7000 crore, while CVC Capital bagged the Ahmedabad franchise by bidding for over Rs 5,200 crore. Sanjeev Goenka-owned RPSG Group acquired the Lucknow franchise by bidding for over Rs 7000 crore. Ten parties were present in the bidding for two new teams for the IPL 2022 season that concluded at the Taj Dubai Hotel in Dubai. Goenka has been the owner of Pune franchise Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for two years.

The claims of Ahmedabad and Lucknow in bidding for new teams in the IPL were looking strong and it happened. Riti Sports, promoted by Mahendra Singh Dhoni's manager Arun Pandey, is believed to have bid for Cuttack, although it is learned that he arrived at the venue a little late and his bid was rejected due to late tender submission. Ultimately not accepted.

Due to the Manchester United club showing interest in buying the new team, the BCCI extended the tender date. It was believed that since the start of the auction process, each franchise is expected to get Rs 7000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore. 22 companies had taken tender documents worth Rs 10 lakh. The base price for the new teams was kept at Rs 2000 crore.
