Preparations for laying new turf at Aishbagh Stadium for the tournament

After 41 years of medals in the Olympics, the same enthusiasm for hockey has started building in the country as it was in the golden era of hockey. In such a situation, why even Bhapal, who is called the nursery of hockey, remained behind. Big events of hockey are going to be held in Bhopal in the next three months. The Girls/Boys Junior Hockey National here in October and the country's most prestigious tournament in December will be the Obaidullah Gold Cup. Preparations have also started for the Obaidullah Gold Cup. It was last played in September 2016. After that it has not arrived. Now for this tournament new turf is going to be laid at Aishbagh Stadium.

The last time was in 2016, the winner got 25 lakhs

The tournament started with the formation of the Bhopal Hockey Association in 1931. So far it has had 64 editions. Recently, sports and youth welfare officials of MP Government met with Sports Minister Yashadhara Raje Scindia, in which it has been decided that this tournament is to be held in December. In 2016, the champion team of this tournament was Railways, which was awarded a cash prize of 25 lakhs by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It was also announced that in the next Obaidullah Cup, the winning team will be given a prize of 51 lakhs.

Features of the tournament - Dozens of international players including 8 Olympians were given

In this tournament, almost all the players of the country, including hockey magician Major Dhyan Chand, have played hockey for the country. It is the result of this tournament that dozens of international players, including 8 Olympians, have emerged from Bhopal. Ahmed Sher Khan, Ehsan Mohammad, Latif ur Rehman, Akhtar Hussain, Inam ur Rehman, Aslam Sher Khan, Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi and Sameer Dad are among the players of Bhopal who have played Olympics since this tournament.
