Lucknow Franchise has announced its official name. This franchise will now be known as 'Lucknow Super Giants'. Dr. Sanjeev Goenka, chairman of RPSG Ventures Limited (Goenka Group), owner of Lucknow franchise, announced the name through a video message.
Earlier, the Goenka Group had also bought the Pune franchise in 2016. Even then he named his team 'Rising Pune Super Giants'. After two years i.e. in 2018, the Pune team withdrew from the IPL after the return of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to the IPL.
Name selected through competitionThe Lucknow franchise had held a contest on social media to decide on the name. He named it 'Naam Banao Aur Naam Kamao'. RPSG Group bought team for 7090 croresA total of 10 teams will play in IPL this year instead of eight. The BCCI had announced two new teams for the IPL on October 25 last year. Lucknow was bought by RPSG Ventures Ltd for Rs 7090 crore and Ahmedabad by CVC Capital for Rs 5625 crore. The official name of Ahmedabad is not announced yet.
