India / PM Modi underlines need to ensure that Afghan territory does not become a source of radicalisation and terrorism

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attended the G-20 summit on Afghanistan. Addressing the conference, PM Modi stressed on ensuring that the soil of Afghanistan does not become a source of radicalization and terrorism. Along with this, PM Modi also spoke of a joint fight against the nexus of radicalization, terrorism and drug trafficking.

PM Modi spoke of an inclusive administration in Afghanistan in which women and minorities are also represented. In addition, the PM called on the international community for a unified response on Afghanistan. Along with this, PM Modi also stressed on immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian assistance for Afghan citizens.

Addressing the conference, PM Modi expressed concern over hunger, malnutrition, women atrocities and the condition of minorities in Afghanistan. He said that integrated international action based on UN Security Council Resolution 2593 is necessary to improve the situation in Afghanistan.

Modi tweeted, "Attended the G20 summit on Afghanistan. Emphasizing on preventing the Afghan region from becoming a source of extremism and terrorism. It also called for immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Afghan citizens and for inclusive governance.

The UN Security Council's resolution adopted on 30 August under India's presidency mentions the need to uphold human rights in Afghanistan. It called for Afghan territory not to be used for terrorism and that a political solution to the crisis be negotiated.
