Rahul Gandhi Demands Amit Shah Resignation Over Alleged Brutality Against Students

He stated that pellet guns were used against the students, a claim he supported by mentioning that he had seen medical certificates from AIIMS regarding the injured students. Gandhi expressed his frustration over the parliamentary proceedings, stating that he was repeatedly interrupted and not given the opportunity to raise these critical issues on the floor of the House. He asserted that the responsibility for the lathi charge and the firing of pellet guns on students lies squarely with Home Minister Amit Shah.

Claims of Violence with Nail-Studded Sticks

Expanding on the details of the July 20 incident in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the students were beaten with sticks that had nails embedded in them. He further claimed that women were also subjected to violence during the demonstration. A significant part of his allegation involved the presence of individuals who weren't in police uniform but were involved in the crackdown. Rahul Gandhi suggested that these individuals might have been associated with the RSS or the BJP, adding a political dimension to the allegations of physical violence against the student community.

Demand for Resignation and Administrative Accountability

The Congress leader was firm in his demand for the resignation of the Home Minister. He stated that because the Delhi Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) all report directly to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Amit Shah is the one who must be held accountable for their actions. Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Delhi Police acted on the instructions of the Home Minister when they carried out the lathi charge and used pellet guns. He also revealed that he had written a formal letter to the Home Minister on July 25 regarding these concerns but noted that he had not received any response from Amit Shah's office.

The Parliamentary Context and Anti-Paper Leak Bill

These developments occurred against the backdrop of the Public Examinations Amendment Bill 2026, also known as the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, being passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Before the bill's passage, Rahul Gandhi attempted to raise the issue of student welfare and the Delhi incident in the Lok Sabha. However, he alleged that the BJP-led government prevented him from speaking. Taking to the social media platform X, Gandhi wrote that during his speech in Parliament, he tried to highlight the brutality against students and the responsibility of Amit Shah, but was silenced by the ruling party. He famously remarked that while they could turn off his microphone, they couldn't silence the voice of the students.

Rahul Gandhi also took the opportunity to praise the youth of the country for their resilience, specifically mentioning the protests related to the NEET-UG 2026 examination results. He stated in the Lok Sabha that every Indian should be proud of what the youth have achieved through their nationwide protests, which reflect their deep concerns and aspirations for their future. Plus, he offered a sharp critique of the current education system in India, describing it as excessively expensive and rapidly moving towards commercialization. He pointed out that the cost of a single examination can sometimes equal the government's entire education budget, highlighting the financial burden on students and their families.
