Ranchi Students Burn Effigies Of Hemant Soren Rahul Gandhi And Tejashwi Yadav

In a significant escalation of the ongoing protests in Jharkhand, student demonstrators in Ranchi took to the streets on Sunday to express their deep-seated frustration against the state government. The protesters burned effigies of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. This act of defiance marks a turning point in the agitation that has been simmering for over three weeks regarding alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations.

Ultimatum and Planned Siege of CM Residence

The students have issued a stern ultimatum to the Hemant Soren-led government, setting a deadline of August 18 for their demands to be met. If the government fails to provide a satisfactory response by this date, the protesters have announced a massive mobilization on August 20. On that day, lakhs of students from across Jharkhand are expected to march towards the Chief Minister's residence in Ranchi to surround it and demand direct answers from Hemant Soren. The students emphasized that they're no longer willing to wait indefinitely for a resolution to the issues plaguing the recruitment exams.

23 Days of Protest and Government Apathy

The protest has now entered its 23rd day. For 22 days, the students maintained a peaceful demonstration, hoping for a constructive dialogue with the administration. However, the lack of a formal response from the Jharkhand government has forced them to change their strategy. While the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) visited the hunger strikers today to check on their health, the students noted that no discussions regarding their actual demands or a formal meeting took place. This perceived indifference has fueled further anger among the youth.

Health Concerns and Emotional Appeals

The physical condition of the students on hunger strike is rapidly deteriorating. One of the protesters, Prem Nayak, shared an emotional message, stating that he might not survive much longer if the situation persists. Despite his failing health, Nayak and his fellow protesters refuse to end their fast until their demands are addressed. Nayak questioned whether the government would only listen to their voices after a tragedy occurs. Also, reports emerged regarding an incident on August 15, where student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who was admitted to a hospital in Ranchi, was allegedly manhandled and mistreated.

Shift in Protest Ideology

The protesting students have declared a shift in their approach, stating that they're moving away from the path of non-violence associated with Mahatma Gandhi and are now following the revolutionary path of Bhagat Singh. Along with the demand for rectifying exam irregularities, the students have now started demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. They've vowed to continue their movement across the state until every demand is met and justice is served for the aspirants of JPSC and JSSC.
