Delhi: A case of rape has been registered against the personal secretary of Congress party interim president Sonia Gandhi. Delhi Police has registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation against Sonia's personal secretary PP Madhavan on a complaint by a 26-year-old widow woman. According to the police, the woman alleged that the accused had promised to get her a job and also promised marriage.

A police officer said the victim was allegedly raped and threatened with dire consequences if she complained about the matter. Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police M Harsh Vardhan said, "A complaint was received at Uttam Nagar police station on June 25. A case has been registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. We will investigate the matter. are."

He said the police were probing the charges leveled against a 71-year-old man, who was working as a private secretary to a senior political leader. Though the DCP did not name the political leader, Delhi Police officials said allegations were leveled against Madhavan.

The police officer said that the victim lives with her 5-year-old daughter in Najafgarh area. In the statement given to the police, she has told that her husband used to put up hoardings in the office and programs of a political party since 2018. She came in contact with the people of the political party through her husband.

The woman's husband committed suicide in February 2020. After which she was left alone. After the economic situation worsened, she went to the office of the political party hoping for help. Meanwhile, on January 21, 2022, the accused called the victim to a house in Sunder Nagar for an interview by sending a message on the phone. Where his documents were taken and sent. After that the accused started calling and messaging the victim continuously. The accused told her about his divorce and promised to get married.

The accused first raped the woman in the car near R Uttam Nagar bus terminal and then several times at his house. In February 2022, the accused called the victim to Sunder Nagar. Where the victim raped her despite her refusal. Disturbed by this, the victim reported the matter to the police. The police have started investigating the matter by registering a case under 376 and 506 in the case late on 25th June.
