According to a report in the Indian Express, Rohit Sharma was in tears before giving a speech in the dressing room. Team head coach Rahul Dravid encouraged the players in the dressing room. After which he asked Rohit Sharma to give a speech but Rohit was very disappointed due to being out of the World Cup. He thanked the team management and staff. Teammates calmed him down. According to some team members, Rohit Sharma had never looked so disappointed. India has lost many tournaments in the past but Rohit has never been so emotional.

This was Rohit Sharma's first ICC tournament as captain. Rohit has played all T20 World Cups for India. He has been a part of the Indian team in the first T20 World Cup played in 2007. The next T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies in the year 2024. Rohit Sharma might even retire from T20 Internationals by then. The Indian team now has to tour New Zealand. Where three T20 and three ODI matches will be played. Several senior players have been rested for this tour. Rohit Sharma is also not part of the squad for this tour.
