Rain wreaks havoc in Assam / So far 14 killed, 592 villages affected due to storm and lightning

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) informed on Sunday that the death toll in the state due to strong thunderstorm, lightning and heavy rains has risen to 14. Earlier on Saturday, there was news of the death of eight people due to the storm.

A total of 20286 people of 592 villages affected

Four people died in Tingkhong area of ​​Dibrugarh district on April 15, three in Barpeta district and one in Goalpara district on April 14. A total of 20,286 people have been affected in 592 villages of Goalpara, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Kamrup (Metro), Nalbari. On Saturday, the ASDMA report said that there has been a severe storm in Chirang, Darang, Cachar, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Udalguri, Kamrup districts.

Many houses destroyed

Four people, including a minor girl, were killed when bamboo trees were uprooted due to the storm in Tingkhong area of ​​Dibrugarh district. A 15-year-old minor boy died after being struck by lightning in Matia area of ​​Goalpara district. The ASDMA's report yesterday also said that 5,809 kutcha houses and 655 pucca houses were partially damaged, while 853 kutcha houses and 27 pucca houses were completely damaged. Apart from this, 34 other institutions in 12 districts of the state have also been affected by heavy rains and severe storm.
