Starlink In India: India's space communications regulator INSPACe has finally granted Elon Musk's company Starlink a license to launch satellite-based broadband service in the country. This approval is the fourth license to Starlink after Jio, Airtel and Ananth Technology. Elon Musk was trying to launch his ambitious satellite internet service in India since 2022, and now his company has got a chance to take a big step in this direction. However, Starlink will still have to wait for spectrum allocation to start commercial service.5-year license, high-speed internet through LEO satellitesAccording to a PTI report, Starlink has been allowed to provide broadband service in India through satellites with Gen 1 capacity present in Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). The company has been issued this license for a period of 5 years. Through this service, not only high-speed internet will be available, but connectivity will also be ensured in rural and remote areas.Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently said that the government has completed all the necessary procedures to bring Starlink's affordable satellite-based service to India. Apart from this, INSPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka has also confirmed that all the formalities related to Starlink's licensing have been completed.Calling and emergency services without networkEmergency calling facility will also be available after Starlink's satellite service starts in India. This facility will be especially useful in areas where mobile network is not available. Apart from this, users will get the benefit of high-speed internet, which will promote online education, telemedicine and digital economy.According to reports, the monthly cost of Starlink's service can be up to Rs 3,300. This internet service will be provided through SpaceX's network of LEO satellites, which will be faster and more reliable than traditional broadband.Spectrum and base station: next stepAlthough Starlink has got the license, the company is still awaiting spectrum allocation. Along with this, establishment of base stations in India is also necessary. As soon as these processes are completed, Starlink will be able to start its commercial broadband services.Importance of Starlink for IndiaStarlink's entry into India will give new strength to the country's digital infrastructure.
