Cricket | Controversy has arisen over the issue of resting senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya from the ODI series against West Indies. Former great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has questioned the commitment of India's senior players. Sunil Gavaskar has said that he does not agree that cricketers take rest from international series but play in the Indian Premier League without a break.

Gavaskar said, "I do not agree with the notion of resting the players. not at all. If you don't take rest during IPL then why do you make such demand while playing for India. I do not agree with this. You have to play for India. Don't talk about rest.

Gavaskar further said, "There are only 20 overs in an innings in T20. It will not have any effect on your body. The mind and body are affected in a Test match, I can understand. But I don't think there is any problem in T20.

Shikhar Dhawan has got the command

This former captain said that it would be better if the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) intervenes in this policy of relaxation. Gavaskar said, "I think the BCCI needs to look at this notion of relaxation. All the Grade A cricketers have got very good contracts. They get money for each match. Tell me, is there any company which gives so much leave to its CEO or Managing Director.

Apart from three ODIs, India will also play five T20 Internationals on the West Indies tour. In the absence of regular captain Rohit for ODIs, the responsibility of captaincy has been handed over to Shikhar Dhawan.
