Cricket | Young faces have been included in the Indian squad for the recently concluded home series against South Africa and the upcoming series against Ireland. While Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have found a place in the team for the first time, senior players like Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya have managed to find a place in the Indian squad after being out for a long time. However, opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ignored despite his good performance in IPL 2022. Since his debut in 2010, Dhawan has played 34 Tests, 149 ODIs and 68 T20 Internationals for India. He has scored 400 or more in 7 consecutive IPL seasons.

The 36-year-old Shikhar played his last international match for India against Sri Lanka in July last year, when he was handed over the captaincy of the team due to the absence of senior players. After missing out on a spot in the T20 World Cup last year, Shikhar has done well with the bat this time for Punjab Kings in IPL 2022. However, despite this, Shikhar was not selected in the Indian team for the South Africa series and Ireland series. Opener Shikhar is now finding it difficult to make it to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year as well. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes so. Gavaskar has said that there is no chance that this Delhi player will be able to make it to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.

The 72-year-old Gavaskar said that he does not think that Dhawan is making a comeback in the national team. He said on Star Sports, 'No. I don't see his name appearing. If he had to make a comeback, he would be in this team. A lot of people have gone to England, and he could have been in this team. If he is not in this team, then I don't see him coming back for 20 World Cups.

He said, 'Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the only pair who will open. Other than that there probably won't be any. Although by then KL Rahul's injury also gets cured, it is also important. Rohit was rested in the South African series and KL Rahul is currently injured. Rohit is making a comeback in the Test match against England but Rahul will go to Germany for treatment.
