Rajya Sabha: Opposition MPs created a ruckus in Rajya Sabha today. As soon as the proceedings of the House began at 2 pm, the opposition MPs started sloganeering demanding a discussion on SIR (Sensitive Information Register). During this, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs reached the well and raised slogans loudly.

TMC MP's outrage

Amid the uproar, TMC MP Mamta Bala Thakur climbed the stairs leading to the Chairman's chair. The marshals present in the House tried to stop her, after which additional women marshals were called. This incident further increased the tension in the House.

Statement of the Leader of the Opposition

Amid the uproar, the Deputy Chairman gave the Leader of the Opposition a chance to speak. He said, "The rules should be the same for everyone. Whether the MPs are from the ruling party or the opposition, when a member interrupts, allowing him to raise a point of order and not allowing the other side to speak is completely impractical. This is against parliamentary traditions." JP Nadda's counterattack

Leader of the House JP Nadda gave a strong reply to the attitude of the opposition. He said, "Those who are disrupting the House have no right to talk about point of order. It is the responsibility of both the ruling party and the opposition to run the House smoothly. But looking at the kind of ruckus that is happening, it can only be said that those who create disruptions have no right to point of order."

Discussion on Sea Freight Bill 2025

The opposition MPs, who were to speak on the Sea Freight Bill 2025, stood up from their seats and kept demanding a discussion on SIR. Meanwhile, the uproar continued, but the Deputy Speaker took the proceedings forward.

Bill passed by voice vote

Despite the uproar, the Deputy Speaker did not stop the proceedings of the House and the Sea Freight Bill 2025 was passed by voice vote. This bill was brought to implement important provisions related to sea freight.
