The people of Kyiv saw their biggest ally, the US, welcoming Russian President Vladimir Putin by rolling out the 'red carpet'. Most people in Ukraine consider Putin responsible for the war, bloodshed and loss that has been going on for the last three and a half years. In such a situation, when they saw Putin being welcomed on the red carpet in Alaska, their anger and surprise knew no bounds.

Extreme anger was seen among the people of Kyiv

66-year-old Kyiv resident Natalya Lipei could not believe her eyes. There were pictures on her phone screen, in which US President Donald Trump warmly welcomed Putin and greeted him with applause. When Putin was coming to Alaska, he was escorted by 4 American fighter jets. Natalya said angrily, "How can such a dictator be welcomed?" This question was in the hearts of many people in Kyiv.

Violation of the International Criminal Court

Trump also ignored the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Putin, due to which Putin is mostly confined to Russia or his close allies. This attitude of Trump seemed like a big betrayal to the Ukrainians. Ukraine has paid a heavy price since the Russian attack began in 2022. Thousands of soldiers have been killed or injured. Thousands of civilians have lost their lives in Russian attacks. A fifth of the country is under Russian occupation, which has torn apart families, properties and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Anger visible on social media

Pictures of Trump and Putin walking on the red carpet went viral on Ukrainian social media. In many memes, these pictures were combined with the corpses of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, which shows the anger and pain of the people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had already warned that this meeting would be a victory for Putin. His words proved to be true. 'This meeting is like another mourning'

For Natalya Lipei, this meeting was like scratching another wound. Her 34-year-old son, who fought in Ukraine's 79th Brigade, was martyred last year in the Donetsk region. This is the same area whose evacuation is a condition set by Putin for a peace agreement. Natalya said sadly, "After my child's martyrdom, this meeting is like another mourning. I don't want any other mother to have to suffer such pain and tears."

'Don't know if there will be any result'

60-year-old Natalya Kukil, a resident of Kiev, said that she was surprised that Trump could not achieve any concrete result from this meeting, while he kept talking about ending the war. She said, "There was no result and I don't know if there will be in the future. We always hope for something good, but now we are disappointed."

'Putin won 100 percent in the meeting'

72-year-old pensioner Anatoly Kovalenko said that Putin won 100 percent in this meeting. He said, "No matter what was discussed, it is clear that our enemy won in the field of public relations." Ukrainians believe that if Trump had insisted on imposing strict sanctions on Putin and taking concrete steps in favor of Ukraine, then perhaps the course of the war could have changed. But no concrete decision was taken for Ukraine in this meeting, which further increased anger and disappointment among the people.
