Rahul Gandhi Visit: Manipur has been in the grip of violence for the last 2 months and many efforts for peace efforts there have not proved to be very effective. Congress leader and former party president Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day visit to Manipur. After leaving the airport, his convoy was stopped by the local police at a police check post in Bishnupur district. Congress workers created a ruckus when the convoy was stopped, to control which the police had to release tear gas shells. Later Rahul's convoy returned to Imphal.

Expressing disappointment over the stopping of the convoy, Congress General Secretary Venugopal said that I do not know who has instructed the local police. Although Rahul was suggested to go by helicopter, but he was adamant about going there by road only.

During his visit, the Congress leader will meet people displaced due to caste violence in relief camps in the northeastern state. Along with this, many civil society people will also talk there. Congress claims that more than 200 people have died in the ongoing violence in Manipur.

Rahul Gandhi has to go to Churachandpur now. But he was stopped by the police in Vishnupur itself. Sources say that the state government has advised them to go by helicopter, but they are not ready to go by air… They want to go there by road. It is believed that the state government is afraid that the women of Manipur are standing on the road in protest. Fearing untoward incident, the state government has been advising them to go by helicopter.

Don't know why police is stopping us: Venugopal

Expressing disappointment over the detention of Rahul Gandhi's convoy in Manipur, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal told news agency ANI, "Rahul Gandhi's convoy has been stopped by the police near Bishnupur. The local police say that they are not in a position to allow us to go ahead. People are standing on both sides of the road to meet Rahul Gandhi. But we are not able to understand why they have stopped us?"

He further said, “I don't know why the police is not allowing us to go. This visit of Rahul is only for meeting the affected people. We have traveled up to 20-25 kilometers so far, but there was no traffic jam anywhere. Rahul is sitting inside the car. I don't know who instructed the local police."

This ethnic violence started in Manipur on 3 May. This is Rahul Gandhi's first visit to the violence-hit state since the violence started here. Rahul Gandhi will be in Manipur tomorrow, during which he will visit several relief camps. Along with the representatives of civil societies in the capital Imphal and Churachandpur district will interact.

Rahul Gandhi will go to Imphal camp tomorrow

Before Rahul Gandhi's visit, a Congress leader told about his visit, “After reaching Imphal, he will go to Churachandpur, where he will visit relief camps. Then he will know about the condition of the displaced people in Moirang of Vishnupur district. Rahul will be in Imphal tomorrow on Friday and during this he will visit relief camps and then interact with the people.

On the other hand, Congress in-charge of Nagaland Ajay Kumar attacked the central government and said that the center is trying to make Manipur disappear from the news. While Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party are trying to focus the country's attention on Manipur. He claimed that more than 200 people have now been killed in the ongoing violence in Manipur. While more than a thousand houses were burnt. More than 700 places of worship and churches have been destroyed in caste violence.

Ajay Kumar said that the law and order in the state has completely collapsed. This double engine government has now become a government with triple problems. Rahul Gandhi will meet the victims in Manipur today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should learn from Rahul Gandhi's visit, he is not worried about the state.
