Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that his state has become the first in the country to inoculate five crore of its residents with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Writing on Twitter, Yogi said the same has been achieved due to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the hard work of healthcare workers.

The BJP leader further called on the people, who have not got themselves inoculated against COVID-19, to get the 'teeka jeet ka' (vaccine of victory).

The BJP-ruled state government had yesterday stated that over 16 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Uttar Pradesh so far.

CM Adityanath had tweeted yesterday: "Securing life and livelihood, Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to provide a protective cover of more than 16 crore Covid vaccine (doses). This achievement is dedicated to the guidance of Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and hardwork of health workers."

It may be noted that Uttar Pradesh is India’s most populous state.

As per the statement issued on Monday, Uttar Pradesh had 86 active COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, India on Tuesday reported 6,990 fresh cases of COVID-19 - the lowest single-day spike in 551 days.

The overall number of active cases in the country is now at 1,00,543, the lowest in 546 days.

The overall death toll has risen to 4,68,980 with 190 new fatalities over the past 24 hours, as per the health ministry data updated this morning at 8 am

In the last 24 hours, there has been a decrease of 3,316 cases in the COVID-19 caseload.

As per the ministry, India has cumulatively administered more than 123.25 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
