Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday made shocking revelations that suspended Mumbai Police API Sachin Waze was the key conspirator in the Mansukh Hiran murder case, and was also single-handedly responsible for destroying evidence critical to the probe.

“Sachin Waze confirmed to us that the concerned Scorpio car (found with gelatin sticks outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence Antilia) was not in his custody, and that he had no role to play in Mansukh Hiran’s murder… But when we started investigating the cause behind Hiran’s death, we arrested another suspended cop Vinayak Shinde who was also working under the instructions of Waze,” Maharashtra ATS chief Jaijeet Singh said at a press conference in Mumbai today.

He said that the Maharashtra ATS has seized a Volvo Car from Daman in connection with the murder case, and that the car seized today is being analysed by forensics laboratory in Mumbai.

“Waze and Shinde were part of this entire murder plot, along with a bookie from Gujarat. They were working in connivance. Moreover, Waze and his associates also destroyed evidence such as SIM card and CCTV footage,” the ATS informed.

Singh informed that they must get the custody of Waze as only then can they get to the bottom of the case.

“It is paramount for us to get custody of Sachin Waze who has been in NIA custody. The ATS will get to the bottom of the case only after interrogating Sachin Waze,” the Maharashtra ATS chief stated.

Waze, arrested in the probe over the explosives recovered from the car outside Antilia in Mumbai late last month, has been sent by a Mumbai court to the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody till March 25.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was quick to come down heavily on the functioning of the Maharashtra government, calling it a ‘vasooli’ (extortionist) administration.

“A ‘khela’ (game) is happening in Maharashtra too. I just saw the Maharashtra ATS press conference, where only a statement was made and no questions were taken... What’s happening in Maharashtra is not ‘vikas’ it is ‘vasooli’,” Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in Delhi.
