New Delhi: Team India is playing its last T20 match today under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Kohli, one of India's most successful T20 skipper, is playing his last T20 match as captain against Namibia at the Dubai International Stadium. After Kohli, who will be the next captain of Team India in T20 format, this big question remains unsolved for now. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are considered to be top contenders to replace Kohli as India's T20I skipper.

Meanwhile, during the toss, Virat Kohli indicated that Rohit Sharma would be the next captain of Team India in T20 Internationals. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is currently the vice-captain of the Indian team. He has a lot of experience, both as a player and captain. Under Rohit's leadership, Mumbai Indians have won the IPL trophy record five times.

"I have been immensely proud of how the team has played. Now I think it's time for the next lot to stake this team forward. Obviously Rohit is here and he's overlooking (sic) (overseeing) things for a while now," Kohli said during the toss ahead of India's final T20 World Cup match against Namibia.

"It's been an honour for me, I was given the opportunity and I tried to do my best. But it's also time to create some space and move forward."

Virat Kohli had announced a few months back that he would step down as India T20 skipper after the T20 World Cup 2021. Kohli has so far captained India in 49 T20Is, in which Team India has won 29 matches. After the World Cup, India now has to play a three-match T20 series against New Zealand at home from November 17 and it is believed 'new captain' Rohit Sharma might then lead the national squad in that series.
