Russia Presidential Election: Yesterday (March 16) was the second day of three-day voting for the Russian presidential election. Since the beginning of the election campaign, there was no enthusiasm among the people of Russia regarding the elections. Many Western media outlets had claimed that this time there will be a record decline in voting percentage in Russia. On Saturday, Deputy Chairman of the Election Commission Nikolay Bulaev told the media that so far 51.77 percent voting has taken place across the country. This time voting will last for three days from March 15 to March 17, it is expected that the voting figures may increase further.

This is the first election after the constitutional reform brought by the Russian government in 2020. After the reform, the way was cleared for Vladimir Putin to remain President till 2036. Four candidates are contesting against Putin in this election, which includes Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR), Nikolay Kharitonov of the Communist Party and Vladislav Davankov of the New People's Party. But like every time, this time too it is expected that Vladimir Putin will hold the post of President for the fifth time.

“Peaceful elections are being held”

According to Olga Kirillova, till 3 pm there has been no news of interference in the voting process, voting is going on peacefully in the entire country. He also told that more than 39 lakh people have voted in the country. Let us tell you that this time voting is taking place in those areas which Russia has acquired from Ukraine after 2022, against which Ukraine and Western countries are also protesting.

“Cyber attack from Ukraine”

Gor Lyapunov, associated with digital service provider company Rostelecom in Russia, has revealed that more than 90 thousand cyber attacks took place on the first day of the elections. Lyapunov said that these attacks were carried out by Ukraine and North America. He claimed, “Such a high number of attacks is a sign that the collective West is fighting against Russia and the attacks have been carried out from Ukraine and Western Europe as well as North America.” Apart from this, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has also accused America of using hackers to influence the electoral process.
