The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League has still some time to go before it takes center stage, but with the auctions imminent, the euphoria has already started to build. More than 950 (971) players from all around the world threw their hat in the ring for the right to feature in the world’s biggest cricket league, out of which only 332 have made it to the final list.

From Pat Cummins to Aaron Finch to Eoin Morgan to uncapped prodigies like Priyam Garg and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the list is a star-studded list, but what has caught the eyes of everyone are the names of Praveen Tambe and Afghanistan teenage prodigy Noor Ahmad. While Tambe, who has set his base price as Rs 20 Lakh is the oldest cricketer in the auction list, the reverse is true for the 14-year-old Noor Ahmed, who is the youngest to throw his hat in the IPL auction ring.

While Tambe is a household name courtesy his past exploits for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, the inclusion of Noor Ahmed has created a lot of intrigue among the fans.

Another teenage Afghanistan prodigy in the IPL auctions

Ahmad, 14 years and 344 days old, turned heads with his performances in the recent U-19 Asia Cup and the U-19 series against India besides also proving his mettle in proved his mettle; he emerged as the Emerging Cricketer in the Sphageeza League- Afghanistan’s franchise-based domestic tournament. He was first spotted by former captain and national selector Raees Ahmedzai last year

“I saw him for the first time during U-19 trails. When I become the head coach of U-19 I picked him and he did very well. I so impressed [by] his bowling,” Ahmadzai told Sportstar.

“When I saw him I realised that this guy will soon shine at the highest level. The way he was bowling, especially the wrong one to [the] right-handed batsman, was great to watch,” Ahmadzai said.

Noor was one of the bowlers who was called-up for trials by Rajasthan Royals and Ahmadzai feels an IPL contract could serve as a major boost to the teenager’s confidence.

“IPL auction will give lots of confidence and it will help our team in [the] World Cup,” Ahmadzai concluded.
