Maharashtra | Before resigning from the post of Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray took many big decisions. One of them is the appointment of senior IPS officer Vivek Phansalkar as the new police commissioner of Mumbai. Vivek Phansalkar, a 1989 batch IPS officer, was serving as the Director General and MD of Police Housing and Welfare Corporation before his appointment as the Mumbai Police Commissioner.

He will replace the present police commissioner Sanjay Pandey who is retiring on Thursday. Prior to this, Vivek Phansalkar had served Maharashtra Police in various key positions including Thane Police Commissioner and Maharashtra ATS Chief.

Security beefed up in Mumbai ahead of the arrival of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs

Mumbai Police has beefed up security in and around the Vidhan Bhavan, the route through which the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs can pass after leaving the airport. an officer gave this information on Wednesday. Police have invoked Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) which prohibits the assembly of five or more persons. No one has been instructed to gather in Vidhan Bhawan and adjoining areas in South Mumbai.

Adequate police personnel will be deployed on the way to the assembly premises from the Mumbai airport for the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde, the official said. "Police and traffic police are on alert as Shiv Sena supporters are expected to protest when the rebel MLAs reach Vidhan Bhavan," he said.

The official also said that the traffic police will ensure that the buses carrying the rebel MLAs reach Vidhan Bhavan safely without any hindrance. "Though no official information has been received so far about the plans of Shiv Sena supporters, but a green corridor may be made for the movement of buses of the rebel MLAs," he said.
