Ukraine / Why Zelensky had to sell his khaki T-shirt, auctioned for 85 lakhs

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has auctioned off his much-loved Khaki Tsearch for £90,000 (₹85,43,505.62) at a charity auction in London. The event was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine at the Tate Modern on 6 May. The starting price of the T-shirt was set at £50,000. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged buyers to bid higher.

Zelensky also addressed the event in a virtual way before the auction. He commended her for her support for Britain and its premier, Boris Johnson.

Zelensky further said that Russian troops destroyed nearly 400 health facilities, including hospitals and maternity hospitals. He further highlighted the problems Russia has posed to Ukraine and Europe. Let us tell you that Tate Modern also issued an official press release detailing the "statement of solidarity with Ukraine".

According to the statement, "Tate stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and in its condemnation of Russia's invasion. Together with other museums and arts organizations around the world, we support the global campaign to immediately withdraw Russia from Ukraine and We will not work with or maintain a relationship with anyone associated with the Russian government."

Earlier, financial commentator Peter Schiff had complained about Zelensky addressing the US Congress wearing a T-shirt. In his address, Zelensky urged US President Joe Biden to impose further sanctions against Russia and establish a no-fly zone on Ukraine, Newsweek reported.

Members of Congress gave a standing ovation to Zelensky's emotional appeal, but Schiff made an insensitive comment on Twitter, writing, "I understand times are tough, but doesn't the President of Ukraine have a suit? I'm not in the US Congress." It's not a lot of respect for the current members either. I still won't address them wearing t-shirts. I don't want to disrespect the organization or the Unites States.'
