Australian veteran Ian Chappell believes that the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) suggests that cricket is not impenetrable. He said that the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in India due to Kovid-19 cannot be postponed or ruled out at any other venue.

Despite a tight bio-safe environment (bio-bubble), Riddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals (DC) and Varun Chakraborty and Sandeep Warrier of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were found to be Kovid-19 positive.

Chappell wrote in his column in ESPNcricinfo, "The suspension of IPL 2021 is a reminder that the sport is not impenetrable, due to the rise and deaths of covid infections in the general public and some players found positive."

India is still reeling from the second wave of Kovid-19 and more than four lakh cases are being reported here every day. The T20 World Cup is to be held in India in October-November. "Looking at the current environment, the suspension of the IPL could set an example and thereafter the year-end T20 World Cup in India could be postponed or held elsewhere," Chappell said.

He said that in the past also the game has been affected due to various reasons. Chappell said, "In the past, tour and matches had to be canceled due to various reasons. There were some stories attached to them, some of which were sad and some were entertaining. '
