Delhi: Former TMC leader Yashwant Sinha's name has been approved as the opposition candidate for the post of President. This decision has been taken in a meeting of opposition parties chaired by NCP leader Sharad Pawar. Yashwant Sinha was also present in this meeting. Earlier, the three names put forward by the opposition had refused to be candidates. These included the names of Sharad Power, Farooq Abdullah and Gopalkrishna Gandhi. Yashwant Sinha had already offered to resign from the party. He had said that the time has come for him to move away from the party for a bigger national cause and work for the unity of the opposition.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that all the opposition parties together have decided that Yashwant Sinha will be our candidate in the presidential election. Ramesh said that Yashwant Sinha is a worthy candidate. He believes in the secularism and democratic fabric of India. He also said that we are sad that the Modi government could not hold a serious discussion to form an opinion on the presidential candidate. Let us tell you that the discussion of becoming his presidential candidate had started since he decided to quit the party thanking Mamata Banerjee.

Today the BJP had also called a meeting of the Parliamentary Board to decide the presidential candidate. However, no name has been revealed yet. Earlier, Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda were given the responsibility of talking to the opposition to form an opinion on the President's post from the NDA side. However, an opinion could not be formed on this in power and opposition.

Will JDU also get support?

Experts say that Yashwant Sinha's name was stamped because those whose names were proposed by the opposition were refusing. In such a situation, there was a need for such a face which was also ready and there was no controversy on it. At the same time, it is also being said that JDU can support Yashwant Sinha as he comes from Bihar. It has happened twice that Nitish Kumar has supported the candidate out of the box. Despite being a part of NDA, he supported Pranab Mukherjee. Talking about the last elections, he supported Ram Nath Kovind, while he was part of the Grand Alliance at that time.
