UP Civic Elections: The Uttar Pradesh government has challenged the High Court's decision regarding OBC reservation in the municipal elections in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The UP government has filed an application and asked the Supreme Court to consider the decision of the High Court. Let us tell you that the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday, canceling the draft notification regarding the municipal elections of the Uttar Pradesh government, had ordered to hold the municipal elections in the state without OBC reservation. Along with this, the Bench had ordered the State Government and the State Election Commission to complete the local body elections by January 31, 2023, considering the OBC seats as general category seats.

Yogi had already said about going to the Supreme Court

It was only after the order of the High Court that the Yogi government had talked about approaching the Supreme Court in this matter. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that the government would set up a commission in the context of the civic body general elections and provide reservation facility to OBC citizens on the basis of triple test, and later the government also constituted the commission. Yogi had said that the municipal elections will be held only after OBC reservation is done. The Yogi government had then said that if needed, it would go to the Supreme Court against the decision, and today the government has also filed an application in the Supreme Court.

Opposition is constantly attacking the Yogi government

After the court's decision, the opposition parties fiercely attacked the BJP. Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav had tweeted that 'Ghariali is showing sympathy on the subject of OBC reservation in BJP body elections. Today the BJP has taken away the reservation rights of the backward, tomorrow the BJP will take away the reservation given by Babasaheb to the Dalits as well.' On the other hand, BSP supremo Mayawati had said, 'The Uttar Pradesh government should follow the instructions of the Supreme Court with all sincerity and honesty. By complying with the triple test, the system of OBC reservation was to be finalized in time and the election process was to be finalised, which was not done properly. The OBC society will definitely punish the BJP for this mistake.

Congress also targeted the Yogi government

Let us tell you that after the order of the High Court, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had alleged that due to the messed up attitude of the BJP, the constitutional rights of the backward people are on the verge of ending. He tweeted, 'Whenever it comes to taking a stand in support of social justice and reservation, BJP's anti-reservation face comes to the fore. The important constitutional right of the OBC class is on the verge of being lost due to the haphazard attitude of the BJP government regarding reservation in urban body elections in UP. OBC class should get the right of reservation in urban body elections. BJP's anti-reservation stand will not be tolerated.
