The political atmosphere in Rajasthan has intensified as the application process for the Rajya Sabha member elections has officially begun. In a significant development on Thursday, May 4, major political parties have started unveiling their chosen representatives for the upper house. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took the lead by announcing its candidates earlier in the day, followed by the Indian National Congress, which also released its list of nominees for the upcoming contest.

Seat Distribution and Candidate Selection

In Rajasthan, three Rajya Sabha seats are currently becoming vacant. According to the prevailing political mathematics and the strength of the parties in the state assembly, the BJP has decided to field two candidates, while the Congress party has announced one candidate for the state. This strategic move reflects the current numerical alignment within the legislative framework of Rajasthan.

Congress Re-nominates Neeraj Dangi

The Congress party has officially named Neeraj Dangi as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. Neeraj Dangi is a seasoned politician who currently serves as a Rajya Sabha MP from the state. Interestingly, the source indicates that his current term is scheduled to conclude in June 2026, yet the party has chosen to nominate him once again for the upcoming election cycle. Dangi is a prominent figure within the party hierarchy, currently holding the position of General Secretary in the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. His association with the Congress spans over 30 years, during which he has served in various capacities and played multiple roles within the organization.

Educational Background and Political Journey

Neeraj Dangi first entered the Rajya Sabha as a member in the year 2020. Beyond his political career, he possesses a strong academic background, having completed his studies in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Karnataka. His long-standing loyalty to the party and his professional qualifications have made him a key choice for the Congress leadership.

Congress Candidates in Other States

Apart from Rajasthan, the Congress party has also announced its candidates for several other states, including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand. In Karnataka, the party has declared three candidates for the Rajya Sabha. For the states of Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand, the party has decided to field 1 candidate each, showcasing its nationwide strategy for the upper house elections.

BJP Fields Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar

On the other side of the political spectrum, the BJP has finalized two names for the Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan. The party has nominated Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar as its official candidates. Satish Poonia is a well-known leader who is currently handling the responsibility of being the in-charge for the party in Haryana, while alka Gurjar, the second nominee, is serving as the BJP National Secretary.
