In a significant strategic shift for Jaipur's infrastructure landscape, the proposed 101-km Northern Ring Road will no longer be linked to the existing Southern Ring Road. According to official sources, the decision stems from a detailed viability assessment which revealed that connecting the two segments would lead to exorbitant land compensation payouts. Such costs would have compromised the financial feasibility of the entire project, while a final alignment has now been drafted for submission to the Central Cabinet Committee for approval.
Revised Alignment and Route Connectivity
The existing Southern Ring Road currently spans from Bhankrota on Ajmer Road to Bagrana on Agra Road, while while the original plan intended to link the Northern segment at these junctions, the new alignment shifts the starting point to a location beyond Bagru on Ajmer Road. The revised path will traverse near Chomu on Sikar Road, pass between Daulatpura and Chandwaji on the Delhi Bypass, and proceed through Achrol to eventually merge with the Jaipur-Bandikui Expressway.
₹3,000 Crore Project Scale and Land Acquisition
The Northern Ring Road is envisioned as a 6-lane high-speed corridor with an estimated project cost of approximately ₹3,000 crore. The construction will necessitate the acquisition of land across more than 150 villages spanning 10 tehsils. Key areas identified for acquisition include Chomu, Amer, Jamwa Ramgarh, Bassi, Kalwar, Jobner, and Sanganer. Authorities are focusing on optimizing the route to balance connectivity needs with the economic constraints of land procurement.
Approval Workflow and Tendering Process
The revised alignment is currently undergoing final technical evaluations. Once finalized, the proposal will be presented to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for formal clearance, while the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will initiate the tendering process only after receiving the necessary administrative and financial sanctions. This project is expected to Notably divert heavy traffic from Jaipur's city center, streamlining transit between major highways.
Anti-Encroachment Drive for Sanganer Elevated Road
Parallel to the Ring Road developments, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation's vigilance wing conducted a major drive against temporary encroachments in Sanganer on Monday. Operations were concentrated around Chauradia Petrol Pump, RIICO Pulia, and Malpura Gate, resulting in the seizure of four truckloads of unauthorized structures and goods. This action was taken to facilitate the ongoing construction of the Sanganer Elevated Road, which is expected to enter a high-intensity phase shortly.
Traffic Management and Enforcement Measures
Vigilance Commissioner Ajay Sharma stated that the removal of encroachments is vital to ensure smooth traffic flow during the construction of the elevated corridor, while officials have issued warnings to local vendors and shopkeepers against re-occupying road limits. Future violations will attract heavy penalties and challans. These measures are part of a broader urban planning effort to minimize public inconvenience while executing critical infrastructure upgrades within the city limits.
