Political activities have intensified Importantly ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, and amidst this, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has suffered a massive blow. Right before the Punjab assembly elections, two MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party have resigned from the party. This sudden resignation of two legislators has created a political uproar in Punjab, sparking intense discussions across political corridors. This latest turn of events has shaken the political equations of the state and provided the opposition parties with a major issue to target the government.
According to the information received, this entire political development is rooted in the Patiala district. The AAP suffered this major jolt ahead of the Punjab assembly elections from Patiala's Sanaur constituency, where MLA Harmeet Singh Pathan Majra officially resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party. This decision by Harmeet Singh Pathan Majra has delivered a severe grassroots blow to the party organization in the region.
Immediately following this resignation, another major development unfolded. MLA from Samana assembly constituency in Punjab and former minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra also announced his resignation from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party, while while sharing his decision on social media, Chetan Singh Jouramajra wrote that I, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, resign from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party. Following this public announcement, it became crystal clear that all isn't well within the party ranks. Thus, two prominent legislators of the Aam Aadmi Party have severed their ties with the AAP.
It's noteworthy that this political turmoil has surfaced at a time when the party was fully immersed in preparations for the upcoming polls, while just a day prior, the AAP had released its first list of candidates. For the Punjab Assembly Elections 2027, the Aam Aadmi Party released the first list of candidates on October 31. This crucial list featured the names of a total of forty individuals, which notably included the name of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself. It has been finalized from this list that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will contest the elections from Dhuri.
Plus, this initial list also triggered various kinds of speculations and discussions in the market. The most shocking aspect was that the AAP had also given a ticket to jailed leader Sanjeev Arora to contest the elections. Political circles were abuzz with discussions that in this list, the AAP had not dropped the ticket of any sitting MLA. The party allotted a ticket to the jailed Sanjeev Arora from Ludhiana West, which took several political analysts by complete surprise.
Amidst all this internal turmoil, the opposition parties of the state have also become fully active. Especially the Bharatiya Janata Party is visible in active mode regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, while keeping the upcoming assembly elections in mind, the BJP doesn't want to lag behind on any front. Recently, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah visited Punjab, and during his visit, he vocisously raised the escalating issue of drug abuse among the youth in the state. Amit Shah prominently highlighted this issue during his rallies and meetings, putting the state government in the dock.
During his Punjab tour, Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly stated that he met families suffering from Chitta, meaning synthetic drugs, and felt deeply pained upon learning about the prevailing situation in Punjab. Taking a jibe at the administration, he stated that the AAP government should feel ashamed of this miserable condition. Amit Shah made a bold claim, stating that they will completely eradicate drugs from Punjab by the year 2029. He alleged that the drug mafia is fully active in every single district of Punjab and the government has proved completely unsuccessful in curbing them. He roared that they will hunt down the drug mafia from the depths of the underworld.
Continuing his address, Home Minister Amit Shah said that he has come to remind the Aam Aadmi Party that they came to power in Punjab making promises to completely eliminate the drug trade within three months. However, five years are about to pass since coming to power, and instead of declining, the drug trade is increasing day by day. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that even police constables are now being caught in this illegal trade. Citing an example, he said that ten to twelve kgs of heroin are recovered from the possession of culprits. Shah also leveled a serious allegation that those who openly oppose this drug trade are forced to commit suicide or are killed.
Following these series of developments, the political temperature in Punjab has boiled over once again. On one hand, the Aam Aadmi Party is facing resignations from two heavyweight MLAs right before the elections, while on the other hand, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is leaving no stone unturned in cornering the government over law and order and the drug menace. The departure of these legislators has exposed the internal discontent brewing within the Aam Aadmi Party, which is bound to impact the party's election strategies. Political experts believe that if these disgruntled leaders and internal feuds aren't managed in time, the AAP may have to face even bigger shocks in the coming days. Currently, following the resignation of the two MLAs, the political temperature of Punjab has reached its peak, and everyone's eyes are fixed on how the Aam Aadmi Party manages this damage control and what new political moves are played in the near future.
