The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the new schedule for the Medical Entrance Examination, NEET-UG 2026. Following formal approval from the Central Government, the re-examination is now set to take place on June 21, 2026, which falls on a Sunday. This decision comes in the wake of the cancellation of the previous NEET exam held on May 3, which was scrapped due to widespread allegations of paper leaks and administrative irregularities. Currently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is spearheading a comprehensive probe into the matter to identify all individuals involved in the breach.

High-Level Review Meeting at Education Minister's Residence
Prior to the announcement of the new exam date, a high-level meeting was convened at the residence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday evening. The primary objective of this meeting was to review the preparedness for conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) once again. According to official sources, the discussions centered on various logistical, security, and administrative aspects essential for the smooth and fair conduct of the medical entrance test across the country.
The meeting saw the participation of several top-tier officials from the education sector. Key attendees included Vineet Joshi, Secretary (Higher Education); Sanjay Kumar, Secretary (School Education); and Abhishek Singh, Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA). On top of that, the Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), along with the Commissioners of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), were present, while other senior officials also contributed to the deliberations, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to maintain the integrity of the examination process.
CBI Investigation and Raids in Jamwaramgarh
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its crackdown on the network responsible for the NEET-UG paper leak, while on Thursday, a specialized CBI team conducted a raid in Jamwaramgarh, located in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan. The team visited the residences of the accused individuals who had been previously apprehended in connection with the case. The CBI officials spent approximately three hours at the site, where they engaged in detailed questioning of the family members of two brothers currently in CBI custody. This move is part of the agency's effort to gather more evidence and trace the origins of the leak.
Arrests and Previous Actions by Rajasthan SOG
The investigation has led to significant breakthroughs, with the CBI arresting five key suspects on Wednesday, while among those taken into custody, three individuals are from Jaipur: Mangi Lal Biwal, Vikas Biwal, and Dinesh Biwal. The other two suspects have been identified as Yash Yadav from Gurugram, Haryana, and Shubham Khairnar from Nashik, Maharashtra. The CBI team specifically targeted the homes of Mangi Lal Biwal and Dinesh Biwal to record statements from their family members, as Vikas Biwal also belongs to the same family unit.
The cancellation of the May 3 exam was a direct result of these findings. Before the CBI took over, the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) had already initiated a massive crackdown, detaining more than 150 individuals. This group of detainees included not only the candidates who allegedly benefited from the leak but also their parents and other intermediaries. The ongoing investigation aims to dismantle the entire syndicate involved in compromising the examination's sanctity.
As the new date approaches, the focus remains on ensuring a secure environment for the millions of students appearing for the exam. The NTA and the Ministry of Education are working in close coordination with law enforcement agencies to prevent any further lapses. The CBI continues to interrogate the arrested suspects to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy, while the SOG's previous detentions provide a broader context to the scale of the irregularities discovered during the initial phase of the investigation.
