Surender Koli, who was the primary accused in the sensational and gruesome Nithari serial killings of Noida, has died by suicide in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, while according to the latest reports, his body was found hanging from a noose at a tea stall located in front of a temple in the Bhupatwala area of Haridwar. The local police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information and have initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. It has been revealed that Surender Koli had been residing in Haridwar for the past few months following his release from legal proceedings.
Discovery of the Body and Police Action
The Haridwar police stated that the Sapt Rishi police post, which falls under the City Kotwali jurisdiction, received a tip-off regarding a man found dead in a tea shop situated on Sapt Sarovar Road. Upon reaching the site, the police team identified the deceased as Surender Koli, a resident of Mangrukhal village in the Bhikiyasain area of Almora district, Uttarakhand, while investigations suggest that Koli had been operating a small tea stall on a rental basis in Haridwar to earn a living after his acquittal in the criminal cases against him.
During the preliminary investigation at the scene, the police didn't recover any suicide note from the shop or the surrounding area. The authorities have emphasized that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after a thorough investigation and the receipt of the post-mortem report. City Kotwal Kundan Singh Rana confirmed the identity of the deceased and noted his past involvement as an accused in the Nithari case. The police have started collecting information from local residents and are inspecting the site from all possible angles to rule out any foul play.

Surender Koli's name became synonymous with one of India's most horrific criminal cases, known as the Nithari serial killings. The matter came to light in December 2006 when skeletons and remains of children were discovered in a drain behind a house in the Nithari locality of Noida. At that time, Koli worked as a domestic help in the house owned by businessman Moninder Singh Pandher, who was also named as an accused in the case. The discovery sent shockwaves across the nation due to the nature of the crimes alleged against the duo.
Over the years, Surender Koli was convicted in several individual cases related to the Nithari killings and was awarded the death penalty by various courts. However, his legal journey saw significant turns in the higher judiciary.
