Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Rajasthan on July 4 to lay the foundation stone for the highly anticipated Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project. This significant development was confirmed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma through a post on the social media platform X on March 24. The expansion of the metro network is expected to revolutionize urban transport in the capital city, providing a modern and efficient commuting option for lakhs of residents.

Project Overview and Financial Layout

80 kilometers. 66 crore rupees. This ambitious corridor is designed to bridge the gap between the city's busiest arterial routes, specifically connecting Tonk Road with Sikar Road, while the primary objective of this project is to save travel time for commuters and ensure a smoother, more comfortable journey across the city's expanding landscape.

First Phase: Prahladpura to Pinjrapol Gaushala

As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the construction of Phase 2 from Prahladpura to Todi Mod will be executed in four distinct stages. The Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation has decided to prioritize a 12 km long route on Tonk Road in the first stage of this phase. This initial stretch will run from Prahladpura to the Pinjrapol Gaushala area. This specific segment is crucial as it caters to high-density zones and industrial hubs.

List of 10 New Metro Stations

The first 12 km stretch of the Phase 2 project will feature a total of 10 metro stations. These stations have been strategically placed to maximize accessibility for residents and workers. The stations included in this route are Prahladpura, Manpura, Bilwa Kalan, Vilaya, Goner Mod, Sitapura, JECC, Kumbha Marg, Haldi Ghati Marg, and Pinjrapol Gaushala. The inclusion of the Sitapura and JECC areas is particularly significant as it will provide direct connectivity to major educational and exhibition centers.

Impact on Industrial Areas and Traffic

The commencement of this metro route is expected to bring immense relief to thousands of employees working in the Sitapura Industrial Area and the Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI) zone. Currently, Tonk Road faces heavy traffic congestion during peak hours. By providing a high-speed transit alternative, the metro will Notably reduce the vehicular load on Tonk Road, leading to better traffic management and reduced pollution levels in the city.

Future Expansion and Connectivity to Key Landmarks

Following the completion of the initial 12 km stretch, the subsequent phases will extend the metro line from Sikar Road Todi Mod to Ansabadi and eventually into the heart of the city. The comprehensive map of the project reveals that the metro will eventually connect several prominent and high-traffic areas of Jaipur, while these include Harmada and the VKI Sector, Vidhyadhar Nagar, and Bhawani Singh Marg. Plus, the network will reach critical transit and healthcare hubs such as Sindhi Camp, Government Hostel, Ashok Nagar, and the SMS Hospital.

Connecting the Old City and Major Circles

The long-term plan for Jaipur Metro Phase 2 involves penetrating the inner parts of the old city and connecting major landmarks. The route is set to cover Narayan Singh Circle, Rambagh Palace, Nehru Marg, Gopalpura, Durgapura, and Sanganer. By linking Sindhi Camp, SMS Hospital, and Rambagh Palace, the metro will ensure that the most vital parts of Jaipur are integrated into a single, easy transport network, while while the work in these densely populated and heritage-rich areas will be undertaken in later packages, the foundation laid on July 4 marks the beginning of a new era for Jaipur's infrastructure.
