In a significant administrative move, the Rajasthan Agriculture Department has suspended three of its officials following serious allegations of corruption and professional negligence. The suspension orders were issued by the Agriculture Commissioner, Naresh Kumar Goyal, who stated that investigations into various matters involving these individuals are currently pending. The officials placed under suspension have been identified as Sandeep Kumar, Rajnish Kumar, and Vishal Kumar. This development has triggered a political storm in the state, with the primary opposition party, the Congress, intensifying its attack on the state's Agriculture Minister, Kirodi Lal Meena.
Details of the Suspended Officials
The Agriculture Commissionerate of the Rajasthan Government took swift action against the three officials based on reports of corruption, unethical practices, indecent behavior with the general public, and gross negligence in performing official duties.
- Sandeep Kumar: Agriculture Supervisor, Headquarters Bharewala (Office of the District Extension Officer, C.A.D. I.G.N.P., Bikanpur).
- Rajnish Kumar: Senior Agriculture Supervisor, Headquarters Raowala (Office of the District Extension Officer, C.A.D. I.G.N.P., Bajju).
- Vishal Kumar: Assistant Agriculture Officer, Mu. Bagicha (Office of the Assistant Director of Agriculture (Extension), Raisingh Nagar).
According to the official directives, the headquarters of these three officials have been changed for the duration of their suspension period. They're now required to remain stationed in Jaipur and are strictly prohibited from leaving the city without prior official permission. The department has emphasized that the suspension is a necessary step to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations of misconduct and inefficiency that have surfaced against these individuals.
Congress Party's Political Offensive
The suspension of these officials has provided the Congress party with fresh ammunition against the ruling government. Shortly after the orders were made public, the Rajasthan Congress took to social media to target Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena, while the party reminded the Minister of a public commitment he made on June 6, where he had claimed that he would resign from his post if even a single allegation of corruption against him or his associates was proven true.
The Congress party alleged that Sandeep Kumar and Rajnish Kumar are the same individuals whom the Agriculture Minister had previously defended, while the opposition claimed that these individuals were operating as the Minister's OSDs (Officers on Special Duty) in Sikar and were allegedly involved in illegal extortion. At that time, the Minister had publicly stood by them, dismissing the allegations of corruption and challenging the opposition to prove the charges.
Demands for a Comprehensive Investigation
In a statement released on its official X handle, the Rajasthan Congress highlighted the alleged fertilizer-seed bribery scandal within the Agriculture Department. The party pointed out that Jugal Kishore, who was reportedly associated with the Agriculture Minister's decoy team, had already been arrested with a significant amount of cash, totaling crores of rupees. The Congress questioned the timing of the suspension orders for Sandeep and Rajnish, noting that the action followed a meeting between the Agriculture Minister and the Union Home Minister.
The opposition has now demanded an impartial and thorough investigation into the entire decoy team of the Agriculture Department. This demand includes a scrutiny of call details, financial transactions, and the alleged extortion that took place during various raids conducted by the team. The Congress party emphasized that the public deserves to know whether these corrupt practices were limited to a few individuals or if there was a broader network involved in these activities. The party continues to press for the Minister's resignation, citing the suspension as proof of the corruption he once denied.
