The tribal community in Jhalawar has officially launched a significant protest movement, demanding the immediate release of two prominent leaders, Kanwar Lal Meena and Naresh Meena. On Thursday, members of the community gathered in large numbers outside the Mini Secretariat in Jhalawar to voice their grievances against the current administration. The protest served as a platform to highlight what the community perceives as an injustice toward their leaders, while following the demonstration, representatives of the tribal society submitted a formal memorandum addressed to the Governor through the District Collector, outlining their specific demands and concerns regarding the legal status of both leaders.

Demands for Kanwar Lal Meena's Release

A primary focus of the protest was the ongoing incarceration of Kanwar Lal Meena, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Naval Meena, representing the community, pointed out that Kanwar Lal Meena is currently serving time in connection with a legal case that dates back approximately 25 years. Despite the presence of a double-engine government in the state, the community expressed deep disappointment that he has already completed 19 months of his sentence without a resolution to his mercy petition. The memorandum emphasized his extensive political and social contributions, particularly his lifelong dedication to the interests of the tribal population. The community is urging for an expedited decision on his mercy petition to ensure his release.

Allegations of Political Vendetta Against Naresh Meena

The protest also addressed the legal challenges facing Naresh Meena. Bharat Meena, representing the Meena Samaj Seva Samiti, categorically labeled the First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against Naresh Meena as being motivated by political vendetta. The controversy stems from an incident in Piplod, located in the Manohar Thana area, where a tragic school bus accident occurred. According to the community representatives, Naresh Meena had visited the district hospital solely to provide support to the grieving families and to demand justice for the victims. They maintained that he didn't intend to cause physical harm to anyone or disrupt the prevailing law and order situation. The memorandum calls for a completely impartial and fair investigation into all the cases registered against him.

Ultimatum and Warning of State-Wide Agitation

The tribal community has issued a stern ultimatum to the government, accusing the authorities of attempting to suppress the voices of tribal leaders and the youth. They stated that if a positive and just decision isn't reached in both cases, they will be forced to escalate their protest into a state-wide movement, while while the community leaders emphasized their commitment to keeping the agitation democratic, peaceful, and within constitutional boundaries for the time being, there is a palpable sense of anger among some representatives. Some members have even suggested more intense forms of protest, such as road blockades and sit-ins, if their demands continue to be ignored. The tribal society is now closely monitoring the next steps taken by the government and the local administration.
